The Society for the Study of Peace, Conflict, and Violence (APA Division 48) is pleased to invite submissions for the American Psychological Association’s 2025 annual convention, to be held August 7-9 in Denver, Colorado. Proposals must be submitted no later than January 8, 2025, by 5:00 p.m. Eastern Standard Time.
The Society’s 2025 Presidential Theme is “Resisting Oppression, Pursuing Justice.” This theme reflects the urgent need to address alarming global trends, including increasing repression of human rights advocacy, escalating threats to vulnerable populations, and the rise of authoritarian governance. These challenges highlight the critical role of peace psychologists in advancing research, teaching, practice, and activism aimed at combating these harmful dynamics and promoting equitable and just societies.
We welcome proposals on all aspects of peace psychology, including but not limited to conflict resolution, nonviolence, social justice, and advocacy for human rights. Submissions that explore innovative strategies, research findings, or interventions related to resisting oppression, pursuing justice, confronting inequality, dismantling structures of power and privilege, empowering marginalized communities, reclaiming freedom, and supporting liberation movements are especially encouraged. We also welcome submissions from the Global South, as well as proposals that use different methodologies, including qualitative, mixed, and quantitative methods.
This is an opportunity to contribute to a robust dialogue on the intersections of psychology and conflict and peace studies and highlight our discipline's transformative power in addressing pressing global issues. Please join us in shaping the conversation at APA 2025 by submitting your proposal and being part of this critical movement for change.
Your proposal should be submitted here: https://convention.apa.org/proposals. Please direct any questions to our Society’s programming co-chairs Melis Ulug or Quinnehtukqut McLamore. Thank you!
